On Thursday 22nd January 2004 38 Fellows and guests met at the Crown Hotel, Chertsey, Surrey, for a formal debate of the motion "This house believes that corporate practice will be the saving of the veterinary profession".
The motion was proposed by Mr. John Sheridan of Veterinary Practice Initiatives, and seconded by Mr. Julian Wells. Mr. George Tribe of Vetlab Services opposed the motion, seconded by Mr. Carl Boyde of Willett House veterinary practice. Mr. Stephen Ware, Senior Vice-president of the RCVS, was in the chair.
The motion was overwhelmingly defeated, although it did succeed in attracting two or three extra votes compared to the pre-debate show of hands.
There was no formal General Meeting of the society on that occasion.
